move over, vinegar. citric acid is the new super-star of green cleaning, and none of our products would be possible without it! naturally occuring in various citrus fruits, citric acid is a food-grade preservative, chelating agent, and scum-buster. you can buy it from online wholesalers like Bulk Apothecary for under $2 a pound. you only need 5 g of the crystals to make one liter of solution that has the same acidity (5%) as your average white vinegar. the best part? no stench! replace vinegar with this solution of 5% citric acid for all of your descaling/water softening needs (tea kettles, soap scum, dishwasher rinse agent, fabric softener) and you'll never go back to lugging those stinky gallons of liquid home from the grocery store.
still, you can not clean your home effectively by using an acid (vinegar or citric acid) alone (and no, adding EO's don't change this fact.) because while they do a great job of getting rid of mineral build up and softening water, you need a surfactant blend to remove dirt and gunk particles off of surfaces. try our all-purpose surface tonic, which features all palm-free, sulfate-free, junk-free surfactants (and a pinch of citric acid, of course).
